Ceramics
professor: Veronika Selingerová
The discipline of Ceramics operates in a wide context of possibilities
of using materials and colours in a space. Clay as a malleable material
is the basic medium, above all the procedural tactile contact. The feeling
of “creation” is given precedence to the result, which in
respect to the difficult process of realisation (drying, firing, glazing)
may not attain one’s initial ambition.
Craft (and its basic mastery) serves in this connection as an important
supportive medium, both for the success of realisation and for the self-awareness
of the artist. Experiences arising from the future teacher’s own
work are integral in this process. Students in the given discipline have
an extensive workshop at their disposition, with opportunities to apply
both contemporary and traditional technology.
Room for deliberations on “art” is supplied in a tolerant
environment, featuring contact with historic and contemporary representatives
in this discipline by means of required study, personal meetings, literature,
magazines, and having an open mind for discussion.
