Graphic Design
professor: Tomáš Chorý
Graphic Design is a process during which the materials used are transformed
into a new quality—enacting a change in the materials and in the
creator themself. The result of this alloying procedure is tied to several
factors. The first step is in selecting the material, consisting of analysis,
selection, and removal of that which is of lower quality. It is necessary
to keep in mind that the infected areas may later spoil the entire course
of fermentation and with it the quality of the resulting work. Fermentation
itself is the most important and most mysterious part of the entire process.
During its course new ideas and thoughts arise—forming a specific
aroma and bouquet, which have a fundamental influence on the final form
of the product. The emerging matter is suitable for addition of important
ingredients: an overview and a pinch of humour. The resulting distillation,
with the help of digital technology, is strengthened and clarified of
undesired impurities.
And if the result is for some specific task in the area of graphic design
(a poster, album cover, catalogue, logo, book, etc.), during instruction
there is an emphasis on active participation in the process of creation—the
journey from the idea, its artistic expression, the capability to formulate
one’s thoughts and attitudes... all the way to the finished product.
Mastery of digital technology—in the area of graphic design today
it is an absolute necessity—is an essential component of this process.
