Inter-Media
Art
professor: Vladimír Havlík
Inter-Media Art synthesises various methods of creative expression. Emphasis
is placed on open communication, critical discourse and active participation
by students. Inter-media art comes from action and conceptual art (performance,
land art, objects, installations) and the expressive possibilities of
new media (video, digital photography). The key words are: idea, concept,
process, contact, experience.
Instruction in the inter-media atelier is based on dialogue, which should
reveal the background (deep source) of the works of each individual student.
The meaning of dialogue is not the creation of linear angles of causal
progression, but the forming of a conceptual structural network of personal
experiences, unique experiences, and authentic stories—which are
in my opinion still the most important sources of creativity. On the other
hand, there is of course the “story of art”; in the case of
contemporary art, more like thousands of fragments from which each person
must create their own story. One must connect rapid information with “slow”
experience (i.e., experience needs time to become a life value or energy...).
Critical analysis of artworks should lead to the ability to argue, to
identify pluses and minuses, assets and debits. The goal of instruction
is the specification and deepening of personal positions, the formation
of authentic structures of visual thought.
A passion for contemporary art and a curiosity in the content and formal
movements in visual language is the prerequisite for every student.
